By Road To Geestenseth

Germany, 2023

In November 2023, I was driving by country roads to Geestenseth. The name of this place, often mentioned by my father, had stayed in my memory. I wanted to see the area with my own eyes and document the journey through photography, starting in Düsseldorf.

Shortly before, my mother gave me a document from 2005 – an interview highlighting my father and his recollections of childhood during the Second World War. The narratives, at times strongly pictorial, inspired me to seek out the places and moments he described – as they once were, or as they might still exist, at least in my imagination.
